[ hello lalli! it's a bit later in the evening but the weather's still pretty nice, so ichiro's helping to clean up the last bits of the ice cream mess. what a good boy. at spotting lalli doing whatever it is he's doing... ]
Hey, man, would you grab that beach ball? [ gestures at one rolling across the lawn!!! ]
[After gorging himself on sweets all day, Lalli has taken to wandering the grounds and just looking around. He seems rather aimless in his movements, like he has no real motivation behind them.
When Ichiro speaks up though, Lalli looks up to him and then to the beach ball. Without complaint he steps over to pick it up and brings it over to Ichiro, holding it out for him to take.]
[ unfortunately ichiro is a sports boy so he catches it with no trouble. he's also very tall.
he turns the ball absently in his hands. ]
"If someone came up to you and said “Hey, do that thing you do!”, what thing would pop into your head first?" [ a beat. ichiro laughs, adjusts to move the ball under his arm so he doesn't drop it, and then starts to beatbox. not a lot, just for ten seconds or so, and then stops. ] Heh. Easy.
[ he then yeets the ball back at lalli. your turn! ]
[ the possessed radio thing gets him to laugh, because that's really funny??? ] Ha! Never heard that one before. Thanks? I think.
[ and when lalli tosses the ball back, he catches it! easier, this time. the comment seems to roll off of his shoulders. ] Smiles too much, huh. Because you think it's fake, or just because it's too much?
[ because it's definitely not fake. he glances down at his part of the ball. ] What motivates you? That's easy. My family.
[He catches the ball and he looks at it. "What’s the best day you’ve had recently?" That one is on the top and easily visible because Lalli is about to do something besides answering the question.]
...these questions are stupid. If you say anything but a positive answer people are either going to pity you or berate you, so it's a pointless exercise.
[Maybe it's because Ichiro's smile there does look genuine that Lalli decides to answer. It takes a moment though, because such sincerity deserves a thoughtful answer.]
...trying out sweets from a bakery- a real bakery, not that terrible place here. Climbing up a hill and spending an afternoon sitting with some sheep. And then when it starts to rain, running back to town and getting warm drinks to chase off a cold.
[ that's okay, he doesn't seem to mind the wait. ]
That does sound pretty good. [ he puts his hand to his chin, thoughtful. ] You know, I don't think I've ever seen a sheep in real life. Are they friendly?
As long as you don't go near the rams during mating season. They're territorial. One time Onni got too close to one and it chased him while he ran away crying.
[Lalli almost smiles at that one. The corners of his mouth definitely relax a bit. But they don't quite tug upwards, so no smile.]
[ after all of that exploration, ichiro's at the moonbucks in the library with a hot chocolate. he's sitting in a chair. the goose, who has now decided that he is acceptable? is sitting in his lap while he's scrolling his phone
[ the goose has been placated and therefore does not react to having its picture taken so that's fine. lalli catches ichiro mid sip of his cocoa - he huffs a little laugh and looks down. ]
Yeah, I guess. It stopped trying to eat my hand off, at least.
Nah, man, I'm pretty sure it's just cause I fed it. The rest of them chase me all over the place. I think it's cause I pissed them off when they were harassing Vi-chan the other day.
[ ichiro yamada, a friend to all animals! except geese.
he's not even petting the one in his lap mostly because he's pretty sure this thing is temperamental as hell. ]
Didn't wanna let it run off, though, just in case it's. Y'know... useful.
[ ichiro matches that glance and then pulls his phone. he's worried, worried... and pulling up the screen gets his mouth to draw into a firm line, brows furrowing. ]
... Sieg-san and Bradley, huh. [ not people he was particularly close with, but it still hurts. ]
[ god this is shitty. ichiro starts sending out messages - he's checking in with other people looking around at the moment, and then looks over at lalli. ]
...we should get inside. It's cold out here. C'mon.
[It's odd, because normally he dislikes being touched, but touch week means small gestures like this are appreciated. And still, the weight of what happened is sitting in his stomach like a heavy stone.]
We need to find them this week. So we can get answers.
[He'll start walking now too. Time to head back to the others.]
I know Winter dorm is protecting someone, just like I have been protecting someone. The way Caleb and Kon have been acting, they have to have known for a while. And probably others in the dorm do too, though I don't know how many.
The clue today is what made it finally make sense to me.
