[ the rat shack man was really testing me tonight but i'm going to start this pc or so help me

anyway leo's in the kitchen! he's cooking! there is the wonderful aroma of spice wafting from the kitchen. maybe that's what drew lalli here...? ]

Hey, man! Come for the tacos?

[silentscout]

[wheezes at the rat shack man

Lalli is in the general area because he's looking for something, but the smell absolutely catches his attention and gets him to go right into the kitchen. Spices aren't completely unknown to him- they have things like salt, pepper, ginger, and cinnamon- but this is something new entirely.]

Depends. What are tacos?

[He's trying to be cool about it, but he actually is curious and is coming over to peer at the pans Leo is using.]

[commandertoolbelt]

Oh, man, I am about to blow your mind. Tacos are the food of my people. You're not vegetarian by any chance, are you?

[silentscout]

I don't know how to take care of animals, and I don't like that you're asking about that right now.

[He is LOOKING SUSPICIOUSLY AT THE FOOD NOW]

[commandertoolbelt]

What? No, it's just - I can cook a vegetarian version if you don't eat meat. It's got nothing to do with taking care of animals?

[ what are these assumptions ]

Oh.

[He does relax slightly after that.]

No, I eat meat. Mostly sheep and fish.

[commandertoolbelt]

Cool, cool. You good with beef, then?

[ don't mind him just tossing in some spices and also some sliced peppers ]

[He nods. Meat is fine by him! He's watching the cooking process though, his interest has been piqued.]

It smells hot.

[commandertoolbelt]

You bet it does! What's the point in a taco that doesn't burn your tongue, man!

[silentscout]

People want to eat food that burns them?

[commandertoolbelt]

They do if it tastes good!

[ he squints at lalli for a long moment before turning back to the pan ]

I'll make it a little milder for you. [ white boy ] It'll be a good burn.

[silentscout]

I've never tasted a good burn before.

[He's not opposed to trying it though. He will try exactly one bite of Leo's cooking.]

[commandertoolbelt]

You're about to, amigo!

[ because leo is currently plating one (1) beef taco with mild spice, maybe a few red bell peppers, black beans, alsome cheese, and... yeah, sure, maybe just a touch of sour cream for the kid who's looking kind of apprehensive about feeling the burn. then he pushes it towards lalli before turning back to plate his own, significantly spicier taco. ]

There we go. Dinner is served!

My name is Lalli, not 'amigo'.

[But he does take the plate. Some of the ingredients look familiar? Even if the whole package is very different from anything he's ever had.

Lalli doesn't pick up the taco though. He stares at it for a long moment, and then he looks at Leo. He may or may not be watching Leo to see how to actually eat this thing because wow he doesn't know how to hold a taco.]

[commandertoolbelt]

It means "friend," Lalli. [ so hard not to just call him lallipop for funsies lmao. ] It's Spanish. And I'm Leo, by the way.

[ since they're introducing themselves

anyway he's digging right in like the teenaged boy he is so it's not going to take long for lalli to figure it out ]

So kaveri, then.

[Okay, he can understand that. And after seeing how Leo eats, Lalli will finally pick up the taco and take a bite.

It's not bad- the spice hits him but honestly there's a lot of absolutely vile Scandinavian food so this is alright in comparison. Lots of seasoning beats out fermented meats and vegetables. Still, he's grimacing as he chews and swallows his bite.

And then the heat lingers and he sets the taco down to get some milk. And then he grimaces again because it's cow's milk and not sheep milk like he's used to. Sorry Leo, he's having A Time right now.]

Week 1, Thursday

[This is before the chaos of everyone flooding in from CYOAs, because he got lectured after that whoops.

But yeah Lalli is free of the bee suit and has put on the school uniform again, except that uniform is itchy and uncomfortable. So even as he walks he's tugging at it to try and make it more comfortable. Which means he's going to complain to the first person he sees, which happens to be Leo.]

How do people wear these when they're so itchy?

[commandertoolbelt]

You either wear it or you get kicked out. Sometimes people customize them so it's not so bad, but usually, I choose getting kicked out.

[silentscout]

I knew there was a reason I never went back to school.

[They don't even have uniforms at the school he would have gone to.

But itch itch itch and he accidentally pulls down his sleeve slightly, and Leo can catch a quick glance of the word 'WATER' written in glowing ink on his wrist.]

Or you could just go to a school that doesn't do uniforms, but I wouldn't recommend that, either.

[ he sees! the word! and it actually does catch his interest, because well - ]

You got one, too, huh?

[ holding up his arm, where the words burning someone circle his wrist like a really messed up bracelet. ]

[OH BOY THOSE WORDS]

...yes. I haven't seen anyone else with them yet, so I thought I was the only one.

'Burning someone'? Are you a Cleanser?

[ it is friday and i actually just thought of something that would suit leo better but it's too late now (pensive) ]

I've seen one or two, but I don't know what makes us all so special. And I'm gonna say - probably not? Is that like a janitor, or what?

They use fire to burn away infected land and make it safe for farming and building on.

[They also use flamethrowers and bombs, not magic, but still.]

Do you think everyone has words on them?

[commandertoolbelt]

[ i see dw is withholding notifs again ]

Wow. Okay, no, that's definitely not what I am. Infected land?

[ ???? ]

If we all do, then they're good at hiding them. Which I get! [ glances at his wrist. ] Mine's not exactly sunshine and rainbows.

There's nothing to be ashamed of. Accidentally hurting someone is a normal fear. Nobody want to hurt their friends.
