The only satisfactory reason I could think of would be "they were infected and I was protecting everyone else." But the Rash doesn't exist here, so that won't happen.
It's not about being satisfied. It's about finding a reason and making sure it doesn't happen again.
Until we know their reasons, I do not want to be too caught up in preemptive sympathy for the killers. We cannot be expected to act under knowledge we do not have, and what we do have puts them in a very unfortunate light.
