[Lalli kept his promise: he is now showered and clean and wearing his school uniform instead of his stinky forest clothes. It's weird showing this much skin (literally only his neck and arms are showing when they usually don't, the rest is still covered by clothes) but whatever. He said he would.

But his dirty clothes are in a pile on the common room floor and he's considering them thoughtfully. Someone doesn't know how to do laundry.

That's when he sees Lux.]

Where do I put these to get washed?

[illuminance]

[ she's very proud of him and offers a smile, despite the day they have had.

except it kind of slips away because... she also... doesn't know how to do laundry with the machines... ]

Ah... I'm not sure?

[he's quiet for a moment, as he realizes she doesn't know either. Then he lets his g aze fall back to the dirty clothes.]

...Tuuri or Mikkel always washed the laundry. I don't know what to do.

[He will scoop up his laundry to be led to the machines. Odds are he won't trust said machines but he is willing to Try.

Also Lux is going to find it increasingly easy to get Lalli to do stuff, since he just. Listens and does what she says, so long as it doesn't offend him.]

then she's just squinting at the machines... ]

Maybe we can figure them out together?

[He's going up to a random washing machine and hitting buttons on it. Nothing happens. because the lid is open.]

[illuminance]

[ hmmm. okay lux, you can do this. these machines say washer and those say dryer, so that's obvious enough. but why is that one not doing anything... ]

... Maybe that one is broken?

Maybe...

[He closes the lid on it so he can try the next one, but then the lid locks shut to start the cycle. Lalli isn't expecting that loud clang either so he jumps in surprise and now looks all ruffled like a spooked cat.]

[ lux also startles, because the sound is unfamiliar and practically out of nowhere! ]

Oh! You did it. Somehow?

But I don't even know what I did. It just started on its own.

[He looks at the settings on the washing machine to see what they say, as if that will clarify this mystery any.]

well, some of these make sense? hot and cold is self explanatory. small medium and large... in theory are self explanatory. whites? huh?? it's like she knows all these words but isn't sure what. impact choosing them would have? ]

That's true... It didn't start just from pressing the buttons.

[ just in case, she tries pressing the buttons on another washer, which. also has its lid open, so it does not start. ]

[Whites, at least, makes sense to Lalli. Part of his previous uniform had been white and that part had to be washed separately. Different cycles for types of fabric...

I don't know... The phones and their portraits are impressive too - I can believe that these machines will do the laundry. But it certainly can't hurt to test it before putting in all of your clothes.

[ lux, a noble, has probably never had to wash her own clothes. ]

The clothes from this world are itchy and uncomfortable, and I only put up with them when I have to. So I don't want my clothes ruined.

[Lalli you are wearing full wool clothing in summer, how are you not dying of sweat?]

Especially not the cloak, I need that.

That's very understandable. We should be sure to take good care of your clothes.

I don't think we're required to wear the uniforms they've provided us, anyway.

They didn't complain when I wore my cloak to class, but I did put the uniform on under it.

What are these clothes even made out of? It doesn't feel like wool.

I'm certain they tried to teach me about fabrics and other things like that, but I was not a very attentive child.

[Even though he has a dismissive tone, he's not trying to be rude. Rather, he's trying to reassure Lux that not paying attention is normal for a kid.
