Abilities: Here is an explanation of mages in Lalli's canon. The sections on Finnish mages are the important ones here, as he is a Finnish mage (and thus has no access to the magic that Icelandic mages do).
Finnish magic comes from two sources: their inner self, and the gods. The magic that comes from within is usually protection magic: sensing the presence of other life forms, hearing the cries of trolls (which sound like wordless screeching to non-mages), putting up both physical and mental barriers to protect themselves from outside attacks, and other small things here and there. A lot of what a mage can do in regards to 'magic from within' depends on what their luonto is though. Lalli's luonto is a lynx, and he can enhance his running speed and climbing capabilities and be particularly loud when he needs to be. He can also sense the presence of both Trolls and living people, and he's pretty good at keeping up barriers. Being the grandson of one of Finland's first post-illness mages, Lalli has both strong blood running through his veins and a lot of special training (first from his grandma, then from his cousin) that makes him particularly adept at being a mage.
The second source of magic is accessed through prayers to the Finnish gods. Pray to the god of weather to bring about a clear night, pray to the god of the hunt to track down non-infected animals to eat, pray to the god of traveling to avoid Trolls during a trip. The gods don't always listen, but usually they do, provided that you know the right words and can say the right prayers to invoke their presence. Lalli has a lot of these prayers memorized, so he can easily recall the prayers to invoke the gods.
(With the note regarding fae in mind, Lalli himself is nothing but an ordinary human, but his magic is granted by the Finnish gods. They're old world pagan gods so they have some similarities with the fae. Some might say that he 'belongs to the forest' too based on his personality and how good he is at magic.)

Personality: Lalli is very much like a cat: stubborn, prissy, hesitant around anyone new, and eternally attached to anyone who earns his favor. Which makes sense, given that part of his soul is cat-soul. But honestly it's a really good quick summary of what Lalli is like. He dislikes change, he's very picky about what he eats, he doesn't like loud noises or uncomfortable textures, he likes hiding in tall or narrow spaces (especially under beds), and the best way to gain his loyalty is to feed him.
Lalli might be very catlike and grumpy a lot of the time, but he does have other traits too. He's very loyal to a selected few, to the point where he will walk right into a deadly situation if it means saving someone important to him. He's good at scouting and hunting, and takes pride in his work. He's also generally helpful, even if he might not look like he likes helping. Lalli is kind of a follower, so as long as someone asks him the right way to do stuff he'll generally do it. He's...kind of bad at being independent, honestly.
