Yeah, we are. [so he gets what lalli means, and he shrugs.] I don't know if people are ever really good at people? You just have to keep talking to them and eventually they become friends and it's easier.

What was your friend like?

Very loud and opinionated. I can't even understand him most of the time but he never stops talking. Sometimes I can hear it when I'm sleeping too.

[When he says that, it's not with the usual bite that his petty complaints have.]

Sounds annoying. [but he sounds amused, like he doesn't believe that.] How long have you been friends?

[He takes a moment to count back on his fingers, but in the middle of counting he abruptly stops.]

Does it count from when you met them? Or the first time you called them a friend?

It counts for whatever you want it to count, probably. I guess maybe it starts the minute you start to get to know each other better.

[silentscout]

I don't really know that much about him. We speak different languages so I can't talk to him very much. His Finnish is terrible and I only know a little bit of Swedish.

Do you trust this guy?

[silentscout]

[Immediately, with no hesitation:]

Yes.

Then I'd say your friendship probably started around the time you decided to trust him.

[silentscout]

[THINKING AGAIN...]

That's not a bad start. And even if you don't always understand him you trust him, right?

[silentscout]

Mhmm. He's really obvious and can't hide anything, so it's easy to tell what he wants. And because it's easy to tell what he wants, you don't have to worry about him being untrustworthy.

...and he saved my life.

Then I'm not surprised to hear you trust him. [back to his original point though.]

It wasn't always so easy to tell what he wants though, I bet, especially when you didn't know him that well. So I think being good with people just takes time and a little bit of effort. Anybody can learn to be good with them, even if it's not a lot of people.

[Yes, he did just make some kind of cat-sound. And he looks distinctly off-put at the thought of putting effort into something.]

Too much work. I'll just sleep until I can go home.

[hm. it's fine, taichi grew up with a cat. also his sister's partner is a cat. he settles for a blink before shaking his head.]

Hate to tell you this but according to the dorm heads you'll be sleeping for a long time then. We're supposedly gonna be here for a whole year.

[silentscout]

I can sleep that long.

[No he can't. He's just being stubborn.]

If you're not interested in talking to people, what am I doing up here?

[taichi's also stubborn? also taichi is used to dealing with tsunderes so this is just how this is gonna go. he's not really inclined to leave or anything, but he's poking and prodding where he shouldn't.]

[He doesn't respond at first, and instead of talking he just looks indignant. Because he's realized that Taichi is right.]

[there's a slightly smug smile of someone who knows he's right.]

Yeah, a person you're lucky has enough skill to get up here. I could get in huge trouble if I fell and broke a bone or six.

[but he's clearly just teasing. even though he's serious, he would in fact be in trouble if he broke a bone or six from falling off the roof.]

We have a doctor, it's fine.

[It is in fact not fine, but.]

And if you couldn't climb up I would have gotten down anyway. I just like it up here.

As long as the doctor doesn't get pissed off, too. [woof.]

I used to climb trees and mountains a lot as a kid. Still do. It's not a huge deal. [a pause.] You could even take pictures of campus from up here while you're working on your mental map or whatever.
